“Jornaleros” (Labourers)

The Association of People of Functional Diversity of Orihuela (ADIS) joined for the first time the San Isidro Murals with this painting, designed by Quino Cumella, a student at Orihuela’s Art and Design College. The scene shows some figures that represent the people following training at the centre, who are refurbishing Miguel Hernández’s house under his watchful eye. Next to his face, we can read some verses of the Jornaleros poem.

Jornaleros que habéis cobrado en plomo
sufrimientos, trabajos y dineros.
cuerpos de sometido y alto lomo:
jornaleros.
Españoles que España habéis ganado
labrándola entre lluvias y entre soles.
Rabadanes del hambre y del arado:
españoles.
Esta España que, nunca satisfecha
de malograr la flor de la cizaña,
de una cosecha pasa a otra cosecha:
esta España.
