“El arado” (The Plough)

2012

Between Calle Acacia and Calle Chopo

Artist Arcadio Blasco (Mutxamel, 1928 – Madrid, 2013) combined many disciplines, from sculpture to ceramics and pottery. In 1976, Blasco took part in the “Tribute of the Villages of Spain to Miguel Hernández”. In 2012 he could not attend due to his health problems but sent instead a sketch of his El arado painting to the students of the El Palmeral High School, who implemented it under the direction of Pedro Marcos. Blasco visited San Isidro several months later to contemplate this abstract work symbolising the act of weeding. Metaphorically, the artist uses the plough as a socially transforming tool.
