“¡Cerca del agua!” (Near Water!)

Water is a regular reference in Miguel Hernández’s works due to the watering of the orchards and the proximity of the Segura River. This simple mural represents the briefness of time in a blue torrent with waves thrashing under the rain. It plays with the end of the verses of Cerca del agua, one of the poems for his lover. Singer Joan Manuel Serrat chose it in 2010 for his album Hijo de la luz y de la sombra, edited as a tribute to the Orihuela-born poet and accompanied by a short film directed by José Luis Garci, winner of an Oscar in 1983.
