“Although Beneath the Earth…”

Under the design and coordination of painter and sculptor Amparo Blaya, the students of the Oriol Occupational Centre produced this impressive mural, full of strength and intensity. Its colours represent the lush palm groves of Orihuela, and its leafs are fraught with verses. The painting reflects the palm trees which inspired so many poems in Miguel Hernández.

Alto soy de mirar a las palmeras,
rudo de convivir con las montañas…
Yo me vi bajo y blando en las aceras
de una ciudad espléndida de arañas…
