“La espera puntual de la semilla” (The Timely Wait for a Seed)

On a russet and brown background, this mural focuses on the drawing of a heart. In Miguel Hernández’s poetry the heart evokes passion, love and drive. From it sprout many veins similar to the branches and roots of the seed mentioned in the verses of the poem. This composition was left out of the piece Expert on Moons which includes a dedication to his friend Carlos Fenoll.

La espera puntual de la semilla,
parte, cuando tú llegas a las altas,
de subterraneidad aún amarilla,
¡oh dedo en puente que a la comba saltas!
Espadas abres negras y peraltas,
bajo tu reja —rápida— mantilla,
si redoblas tambores, digo norias,
corriente de limón, talla de glorias.
